Communicative language competence


Communicative language competence: empower the person to act using linguistic means.

Linguistic competence: LEXICAL COMPETENCE, PHONOLOGICAL COMPETENCE, SYNTACTICAL COMPETENCE, ORTHOGRAPHIC COMPETENCE AND ORTHOEPIC COMPETENCE

KNOWLEDGE OF THE LINGUISTIC SYSTEM AND THE SKILLS TO USE IT.

Implication of communicative language competence for teaching and learning:

To achieve accuracy on the grammatical form of the language
To pronounce the words correctly
To use stress, intonation and rhythm to express meaning
To build a range of vocabulary
To learn the spelling rules
To achieve accuracy in syntax an word formation

Sociolinguistic competence: MAKERS OF SOCIAL RELATIONS, POLITENESS CONVENTIONS, REGISTER DIFFERENCES, DIALECT AND ACCENT.  

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED TO DEAL WITH THE SOCIAL DIMENSION OF THE LANGUAGE

Implication of communicative language competence for teaching and learning:

To use a variety of appropriate greetings and introductions
To address people in appropriate ways
To thank politely
To use please and thank you appropriately
                          ETC

Pragmatic competence: Discourse competence, functional competence and design competence.

KNOWLEDGE ACCORDING TO WHICH THE MESSAGES ARE: ORGANIZED, STRUCTURED AN ARRANGED; USED TO PERFORM COMMUNICATIVE FUNCTIONS AND SEQUENCED ACCORDING TO INTERACTIONAL AND TRANSACTIONAL SSCHEMATA.

Implication of communicative language competence for teaching and learning:

To know how stories, anecdotes, jokes… are told
To start, finish and structure a sequence of events in a story
To layout and sequence a letter, an email…
To express variety of functions through appropriate linguistic means
To use cohesive devices in texts
To respond to questions and formulate questions
